Siw Amira Øksnes of Norway

Siw Amira Øksnes grew up in Hamarøy in the northern part of Norway, but has since 1991 lived in Oslo - the capital of Norway. She started taking Jazz classes with an Australian ballet dancer when she was 13. Siw has studied and danced Oriental Dance since she moved to Oslo and is one of the leading professional Middle Eastern dancers in the country. Siw performs at weddings, birthdays, company parties, and other occasions in addition to her regular performances at the Lebanese restaurant Al Amir and the Egyptian restaurant Café El Nile. She has been the house dancer at Al Amir for over 10 years. She also gives classes and does workshops all over the country on various levels.

In 1991 Siw started taking classes with the Persian male dancer - Human, and during the 2 years she studied with him she performed in various Persian shows under his name. Then she started travelling to Egypt on regular basis to be able to go into the depth of the dance. She has studied with various instructors from Egypt, USA and Europe. Siw has also attended several of Lars Bo Kuhjan's classes in arabic rythms. She has studied different dance styles such as Saiidi, Balady, Shaabi, but has emphasised on the Cabaret style - which is the style she usually presents in her performances.

Siw has participated in several other mentionable exiting projects such as dancing in Morten Harket's music video "Salome" from his solo album "Poetens Evengelium". (Morten Harket of the worldwide known group AHA). She has also danced during Morten Abel's contribution to "Gullfisken 2000" - which is an annual TV-commercial awards show broadcasted all over Norway. Siw is otherwise the most mediacovered Middle Eastern dancer in Norway.She has been telivised on several national Norwegian TV-channels such as TV3, TV2 and NRK. She has been portrayed in various newspapers and magazines. As the only oriental dancer in Norway with her own live band Siw has contributed to and arranged larger shows inspired by the shows in Cairo, Egypt.
